“‘From Prototype to Production: Engineering Lessons from Amazon Sidewalk Device Development,’ targets embedded engineers, system architects, and manufacturing engineers evaluating low-power wide-area connectivity for commercial IoT products”

Cedarware, a leading developer of smart IoT solutions for industrial and commercial applications, announced today that Cedarware CTO, Adam Hickerson will present a featured conference session at embeddedworld North America, to be held in Anaheim, California this September.

The session, “From Prototype to Production: Engineering Lessons from Amazon Sidewalk Device Development,” will be delivered in the Connectivity & IoT track and is targeted at embedded engineers, system architects, and manufacturing engineers evaluating low-power wide-area connectivity for commercial IoT products.

About the Session
Amazon Sidewalk is emerging as a compelling low-power, long-range wireless network for smart home, asset tracking, and smart city applications — with the potential to add connectivity to a device for as little as $1–$3, and sometimes with no additional hardware at all for designs already incorporating BLE. Yet the path from evaluation kit to a production-ready, certified product is filled with complexity that reference designs rarely address.

Drawing on hands-on development experience across multiple IoT programs, Hickerson will provide a vendor-neutral, practical engineering guide covering:

  • Amazon Sidewalk system architecture and where it fits in the IoT connectivity landscape

  • Firmware and software integration: SDK patterns, multi-protocol BLE/Sidewalk coexistence, OTA updates, and memory management

  • Power management strategies for achieving multi-year battery targets in real devices

  • Certification and compliance pathways, including FCC/CE considerations and the Amazon Sidewalk certification process

  • Lessons learned from real product deployments, including provisioning, field validation, and volume manufacturing with HSMs in the Amazon ecosystem

  • How to choose the right connectivity strategy
